A History Of White Water Rafting

Not many people are conscious of the fact that whitewater rafting was one of the earliest forms of journey on water and persons that needed to range from one place to another used to indulge in whitewater rafting to move from one place to another. It is just in the eighties which this activity became a pleasure activity. In reality, it was actually the year 1811 that has the excellence of being the year in which the Snake River that is located in Wyoming was first traversed by indulging in what is now called whitewater rafting by the Overland Astorians who would not go further from a place known as Jackson Hole as the river was too dangerous.

Rubber Rafts

In the year 1840, the first river raft made from rubber was introduced by a person named Lt. John Fremont who was US Army staff and who along with Horace H. Day invented the first such rubber. This raft was invented during the middle of the nineteenth century; nonetheless, its first commercial just use started at the end of that century. The first whitewater rafting rafts were actually surplus military ones and they served as boats for the military while the newer inflatable rafts were only developed much later.

The credit for making popular whitewater rafting visits private companies, while in the year 1956 John D. Rockefeller came up with the idea of even building an entire lodge from where persons could try their hand at whitewater rafting. Although the first reaction to this offer was lukewarm at best, ten years later throughout the sixties and seventies numerous whitewater rafting companies were floated like Becker-Cooke Expeditions as well as Slickrock Adventures that helped to popularize whitewater rafting.

In 1972, whitewater rafting grew to become an Olympic sport and it was then in the Munich Olympic Games. Much later on, in the year 1992 it also came to be included in the Barcelona Olympic Games and again in the Atlanta Olympic Games of 1996. That same year (1996) whitewater rafting was also in the Summer Olympic Games, and more particularly it was performed in the Ocoee River that lies in the Tennessee Valley in america.

Whitewater river rafting is a fun activity. It will allow you to set aside your mobile phone, forget your boss and not be worried about negotiating traffic and being affected by environmental noise. If you want to camp and take pleasure in experience in the outdoors then you should try white water rafting Maine or perhaps ocoee river rafting. You are able to raft down the rivers in the daytime and spend enjoyable nights by a camp site and so enjoy another vacation in the stillness of the wild outdoors.

Well im building a raft to float down my creek and i have a few questions?

I need buoyancy it floats on its own just now with weight it is basicaly 2 long branches with cross beams i was thinking around the area there are tons of dead branch thins that are very thin could i use those for boyancy i would rather not spend any money and advice greatly appreciated

Its all abou the “Archimedes principle“, this is what happens when a boat is placed in water: The water pushes back! The Archimedes principle tells you that an object in liquid is pushed upward by a weight equal to the amount of water the object displaced. So in lamens terms, the more surface area you have the more water you can displace or the more weight you can float. So basically from what I can imagine from your discription you have two logs acting as pontoons and two pieces connecting them? Take the small thins and run them interchanging horizontally to make them one large solid.

RAFTING

The boat must be in accord with the objectives of the group. With different characteristics, different types of boat allow the group to choose which model is most appropriate for each type of rapids in rafting.

It is made of durable material, the hypalon. This fabric is a blend of polyester fiber and reoprene. The size ranges from 3.65 m to 5.50 m. The larger the boat better stability.
The security features are essential in rafting. The helmets must have internal regulation, to accommodate various head sizes.

The ideal model of lifejacket for rafting should have a high fluctuation (the ideal is to float a person up to 160 kg) and fastened with adjustable straps, a float to mind.

Another key item is the cable of redemption, which is an elastic rope with about 20 meters
The paddles used must be as light and sturdy as possible.
The length of the paddle is 60 inches.

WHAT is RAFTING
Breaking down the beautiful rapids aboard a boat. This is rafting, an extreme sport that mixes adrenaline safely, and that can be practiced by anyone.
Because it is practiced as a team, provides the whole family or a group of friends happy to develop an activity together. The friendship and camaraderie are the big guns of rafting
There are varying degrees of difficulty to suit all tastes, so no one can venture according to their will. Somehow, it is also related to rafting categories.

The large increase in the number of practitioners of rafting is the result of the growth of specialized companies and large serving the sport in the media

Choose Your Style: Canoe, Kayak or Raft (Rafting)
There are a variety of formats and sizes for canoes, kayaks and rafts. Select a craft based on your experience, your budget and how you want to use it.

Canoes
For canoeing boats are small, light and usually very narrow. The canoes are moved by oars simple, with the pilot sitting in brackets or kneeling on the hull of the boat. Canoes are usually open on top, but the slalom are closed like kayaks.
Canoes are famous for their instability (which can be fun), and requires good communication between people who are riding a canoe together. The rounded bottom canoes are more unstable, but more resistant to rollovers. The flat bottom canoes are generally more stable until you pass a threshold tilt easily when flipped.
Canoes Grumman canoes popular include, Coleman Canoes and Wenonah canoes.

Kayaks
Kayaks are a little smaller than canoes and covered with a deck. The paddler sits in a hole in the center of the kayak and paddles with a double paddle. A skirt prevents the kayak is flooded with water. Skilled paddlers can even completely capsize and then right the kayak.
Kayaks are very stable because the paddler is positioned in the center of gravity lower than in a canoe. The recreational kayaks are between 9 and 14 feet long.
The popular include kayaks Perception kayaks, canoes and kayaks Necky Old Town.

Rafts
Rafts differ from canoes and kayaks for not keel. Rowers keep on top of the water by their buoyancy and not by water displacement, as with canoes and kayaks. Rafts are mainly used for recreation and navigation in fast rafting white water. Most rafts are conducted with a single oar.

Curiosity: The ancient kayaks were made of animal skins stretched over a wooden frame. Some were designed to be collapsible and are called folders.

Construction of Raft
A raft can be made from any material that can float on water. Commonly, inflatable rafts are made of flexible PVC plastic. Although this material is resistant to punctures, it is always a good idea to bring a patch kit with you.
